The Hit-and-Run Incident
Paul Pelosi, 86, faces charges stemming from a July 3 incident in which he allegedly damaged a parked Tesla with his Maserati convertible and left the scene without attempting to contact the vehicle’s owner. The Napa County District Attorney’s Office filed a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge on Friday, along with an infraction for making an unsafe turn. The misdemeanor carries a potential penalty of up to six months in county jail and a fine reaching $1,000.
According to authorities, Pelosi’s Maserati broke down approximately half a mile from the crash scene. When deputies located him, Pelosi acknowledged hitting something but claimed he was uncertain what he struck and intended to return to investigate. The incident has prompted officials to require Pelosi to complete a behind-the-wheel driving evaluation to determine his fitness to operate a vehicle safely.
Pattern of Driving Incidents
This marks the second time in recent years that Paul Pelosi has faced legal consequences for driving violations. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence after crashing into an oncoming Jeep and injuring the other driver. The New York Times also reported that Pelosi was driving during a 1957 incident that resulted in the death of his 19-year-old brother, though a jury cleared him of wrongdoing in that case.
Pelosi’s Israel Vote Also Questioned
Fox News Digital also questioned the former speaker about her recent vote supporting an amendment to cut $3.3 billion in aid to Israel. The amendment, introduced by Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, failed with a 314-104 vote count. Pelosi joined over 100 House Democrats in supporting the measure, with Massie being the sole Republican voting in favor. The vote reflects growing pressure within the Democratic Party to reassess its position on Israel amid ongoing conflict in Gaza and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s controversial military operations. Recent primary elections have shown progressive candidates critical of Israel defeating establishment Democrats, signaling a potential shift in party priorities heading into the November midterm elections.
