Florida Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon defended her membership in the Democratic Socialists of America during a CBS News interview, dismissing Republican criticism as inevitable regardless of her political affiliations while reframing the debate around her policy positions on healthcare and housing.
Republican Leadership Targets DSA Connection
Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming, the second-ranking Senate Republican, singled out Nixon during a Wednesday press conference at the U.S. Capitol. Barrasso described the Florida candidate as “a card-carrying member of the Democrat Socialists of America,” characterizing the upcoming election as presenting voters with “a clear choice between Republican, common-sense individuals, and these crazy, radical Democrats who have taken their party so far to the left.”
The attack represents part of a broader Republican strategy following recent electoral victories by leftist candidates who openly embrace democratic socialist ideology. Republican leadership has seized on these wins to paint the Democratic Party as moving toward extreme positions that conflict with mainstream American values and economic principles.
Nixon Pivots to Policy Platform
In her Thursday interview on CBS News 24/7, Nixon dismissed the focus on her organizational affiliations. “Let’s be clear. If it wasn’t DSA, they would be attacking me on something,” she stated. Nixon redirected attention to her legislative priorities, emphasizing her commitment to “ensure that people have access to quality healthcare, people have affordable housing, there’s things like universal childcare so people, parents can get to work.”
The candidate framed her campaign around economic concerns facing working families. “I care about lowering the costs, and ensuring that government works for the people and not against them,” Nixon explained. She also attempted to turn criticism back on her opponents, noting that political records cannot simply be erased, stating: “It doesn’t matter whether or not you delete Trump policies or Trump endorsements from your website. You can’t delete your record.”
Stakes for November Election
The Florida Senate race has emerged as a focal point in the national debate over the Democratic Party’s ideological direction. Nixon’s candidacy tests whether voters in a key swing state will embrace progressive economic policies or reject candidates affiliated with socialist organizations. Republicans view the race as an opportunity to define Democrats as outside the political mainstream, while Nixon’s campaign argues that policy substance matters more than organizational labels. The outcome could influence how both parties position themselves on economic issues heading into future election cycles.

Nixon (DSA)believes in lowering costs and affordable healthcare? Really? I have to ask then why not back President Trump because that is what his policies are all about and helping all the people not just certain groups. If Trump didnt have to constantly fight of phony charges and gave to go through courts on everything, we as a country would be there already. Trump tells us his plans of how it will work and what has to be done while these leftist DSA and radicals, like Obama promise crap but never tells how they plan to do it or make it happen and then our costs magically go up and up.
Leftist, democratic Liars all of them. Vote Red people. Anyone supports, ($8400.00) or more for a terrorist group like Hamas, should not be allowed anywhere in our government. Kick her out!
The DSA is a Communist front. These DSA individuals will cheat, lie and defraud the citizens of this country to achieve their goals.
Then they will take away our freedoms like the Communists in Russia, China and N. Korea.
