Campaign Alliance Raises Eyebrows
Harris endorsed El-Sayed last month, praising his focus on affordability issues facing working families. The endorsement came as El-Sayed faces Republican opponent Mike Rogers in a competitive Senate race. Harris stated that El-Sayed understands the power belongs with the people and criticized Republicans for supporting tax breaks benefiting wealthy Americans while everyday costs remain high for Michigan residents.
El-Sayed told reporters he looks forward to having Harris visit, noting that many Detroit community members view her as an inspirational leader. He expressed gratitude for her participation in discussions about increasing voter turnout before the November election.
Newspaper Endorses Republican Challenger
The Detroit News endorsed Rogers on Wednesday, citing his fourteen years in the House of Representatives, military service, and private sector cybersecurity experience. The newspaper called Rogers the prototype of a United States Senator. The editorial criticized El-Sayed for allegedly deleting social media posts and removing approximately one hundred YouTube videos. The publication questioned whether voters could trust a candidate who removes past statements from public view.
Coastal Fundraising Schedule
El-Sayed plans multiple fundraising events in California and New York during the final campaign stretch. Late September will see him attend a Hollywood fundraiser at the home of movie producer Jeffrey Soros, nephew of George Soros. The host committee includes former Obama administration officials and media personalities from Crooked Media. El-Sayed will also visit San Francisco and New York City, where event tickets range from two hundred fifty dollars to over fifty thousand dollars.
Pattern of Progressive Endorsements
Harris has endorsed only two major progressive candidates in the 2026 midterm elections. Besides El-Sayed, she supports Troy Jackson in Maine, who received backing from the Democratic Socialists of America. Earlier, Harris supported New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, another candidate endorsed by the same organization. These endorsements suggest Harris may be positioning herself with the Democratic Party’s left wing as speculation grows about her potential 2028 presidential run.
