A Pennsylvania mother faces double homicide charges after police found her husband and three-year-old son dead from stab wounds inside their Great Wolf Lodge hotel room in Scotrun. The October 12 incident ended a three-week family stay at the popular resort with a scene investigators described as deeply disturbing.
Emergency Call Reveals Horrifying Discovery
Pocono Township police responded to room 2030 around 3:13 p.m. after Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, of Towanda, called dispatchers seeking help. Officers encountered Harrison at the doorway with self-inflicted cuts on her wrists and puncture wounds around her neck. Inside the room, they discovered her husband Charles Harrison with multiple chest stab wounds and their young son with a single stab wound to his chest. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers.
Investigators recovered two kitchen knives with distinctive teal handles from the bathroom—neither belonging to the resort. Several medication bottles were scattered throughout the room. Harrison received medical treatment at St. Luke’s Hospital’s Monroe Campus in Stroudsburg before facing criminal homicide charges. During transport, she allegedly told emergency responders it was not supposed to end this way and that she had envisioned having a happy family since childhood.
Three-Week Stay Ends In Violence
Resort records showed the family checked in September 21 and extended their reservation October 5, with checkout scheduled for October 13. Surveillance footage captured all three family members entering their room around 6:53 p.m. Sunday evening. Later that night, Harrison and her husband visited the resort arcade before returning to their room around 11:22 p.m. The timeline helped investigators piece together the final hours before the tragic discovery Monday afternoon.
Monroe County District Attorney Michael Mancuso called the complaint disturbing reading and emphasized the investigation continues. He thanked township officers, Pennsylvania State Police forensic investigators, and the coroner’s office for processing what he described as a complex double homicide scene. Mancuso stressed that Harrison remains presumed innocent until prosecutors prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt in court proceedings.
Community Reassured After Isolated Incident
Police immediately reassured the public there was no ongoing threat to the community, characterizing the deaths as an isolated domestic tragedy. Great Wolf Lodge released a statement expressing deep sadness and heartbreak over the incident while confirming full cooperation with law enforcement. The resort emphasized that responding officers quickly determined there was no security concern for other guests. This case highlights the hidden struggles families face even during what appears to be an extended vacation at a family-friendly destination.
