Rep. Al Green, a Texas Democrat departing Congress, filed another impeachment resolution against President Donald Trump on Monday, marking his latest attempt to remove the president from office despite Republican control of both chambers making success unlikely.
Allegations Against Immigration Enforcement
The resolution accuses Trump of abusing presidential powers by operating Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection as what Green termed unaccountable paramilitary forces. The document claims these agencies have committed unjustified civilian killings, including those of Renée Good, Alex Pretti, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero. Green asserts the president violated his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office and preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.
The impeachment resolution further alleges Trump has transformed the democratic republic into an authoritarian regime where killings and coverups by federal immigration agencies have become normalized. Green contends ICE and CBP operate with impunity, terrorizing communities through quotas and secrecy while acting as judge, jury, and executioner.
Administration Responds Forcefully
White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis rejected the allegations as garbage, stating such rhetoric contributes to law enforcement officers facing a thirteen-fold increase in assaults. She defended ICE and CBP personnel as brave officers who arrest murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members, and terrorists while delivering the largest decrease in violent crime in American history. The Department of Homeland Security called Green’s allegations unequivocally false, noting officers face coordinated violence campaigns including a thirty-three-fold increase in vehicle attacks and an eighty-fold increase in death threats.
DHS emphasized that nearly seventy percent of ICE arrests involve illegal aliens charged or convicted of crimes in America, denying any arrest quotas exist. The department characterized Green’s eleven congressional terms as inconsequential and affirmed President Trump and Secretary Mullin stand firmly with law enforcement officers protecting national security.
Political Reality and Green’s Departure
Green acknowledges in a letter to Trump that House approval remains unlikely and Senate conviction even less probable. However, he argues that filing articles of impeachment creates an official record of disapproval and demonstrates congressional oversight. The congressman has introduced multiple impeachment resolutions throughout both of Trump’s presidential terms. Green, who served in the House since 2005, lost his Democratic primary runoff earlier this year to Rep. Christia, ending his congressional career.
